OAS SCHOLARSHIPS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR GRADUATE STUDIES OR GRADUATE RESEARCH - 2014-2015 (To begin studies between January 2014 and March 2015)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
All applications must be submitted through the corresponding National Liaison Office (ONE) in your country. Please contact the ONE in your country, before you start the application process, to learn about their deadline and additional requirements.

  • OAS Academic Scholarships are awarded for full-time studies at a university or higher learning education institution in an OAS Member State with the exception of the applicant’s sponsoring country in eight (8) priority areas of study.
  • OAS Academic Scholarships are awarded to undertake graduate studies (Master’s or Doctorate degree) and/or graduate research leading to a degree at a university or higher learning education institution (Not Post-Doctorate) in an OAS Member State.  Studies may be carried out onsite or online, or under a combination of both.
  • OAS Academic Scholarships are awarded for a maximum of two academic years.
  • Candidates must return to reside in the sponsoring country for a period of no less than twenty-four (24) months after completing the program of study covered by the OAS scholarship. Applicants for online studies must agree to remain in the sponsoring country for the same period of time.
  • OAS Staff members, OAS consultants, staff members of the Permanent Missions to the OAS, and their relatives are not eligible to apply for a scholarship. They will be eligible only after six months from the termination of their employment relationship or contract before they can apply for a scholarship.
  • The OAS does not award scholarships for studies in the Medical Sciences and the learning of new languages.
  • The OAS will not consider incomplete applications.
  • OAS Placed Applicants: Submit your TOEFL, GRE/GMAT, if applies, at the time of completing the online application.

WHAT TYPES OF ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS DOES THE OAS OFFER? (GRADUATE)

Consorcio de Universidades de la OEA

1. Self-Placed: Candidates apply directly for admission to the universities or educational institutions of their choice.
Note: The OAS usually grants one (1) Self-placed scholarship per country.

2. OAS-Placed: The OAS seeks placement for those candidates selected for scholarships to universities or higher learning institutions within the OAS Consortium of Universities. Applying for a program within the Consortium increases applicant's chances of being offered a scholarship. (See additional documents and eligibility requirements at the end of this page)


BENEFITS:
OAS Academic Scholarships have a monetary cap up to US $30,000 per academic year, which includes all the benefits detailed below. These scholarships are complimentary, and will not cover 100% of the grantee’s expenses. Not all OAS scholarships offer the same benefits, which are allocated on a case by case basis.
  • Roundtrip airfare
  • Tuition and mandatory fees
  • Yearly books allowance (US $300 for on-site studies or US $1,000 for online studies)
  • Health insurance (for on-site students only)
  • Monthly complementary subsistence allowance (for onsite students only; varies depending on the country of study.  The complementary subsistence allowance is a fixed amount and will not cover 100% of the grantees expenses. Therefore, in case of being selected for a scholarship, you will have to demonstrate proof of additional funds for your monthly subsistence.

    OAS scholarships do not include benefits for the student’s dependents.

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident from any OAS Member State
  • Have obtained a university degree by the time of applying for a scholarship
  • Have an above average GPA
  • Be in good physical and mental health to successfully complete the program of study

  • Copy of the diploma for the highest degree obtained.
  • Copies of transcripts of grades for all academic degrees completed and to be completed. (If the applicant is currently enrolled in a program of study, he/she will need to submit the current transcript).
  • Three (3) recommendation letters: Preferably 2 different from current or former professors using the OAS Recommendation Statement Form, and 1 from a current or previous employer using the Employer Recommendation Form. If unemployed or never employed, obtain a third recommendation using the Recommendation Statement Form. Recommendation letters cannot come from relatives of the applicant.
  • Resume (must not exceed 4 pages). Please do not include diplomas from conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. Do not send pictures. Do not send the copy of your thesis.
  • Admission letter, in case you already have one (only for Self Placed applicants)

APPLICATION PROCESS:
1.
Scan all required documents (black and white, medium resolution) in one single file in PDF format. The file shouldn’t be larger than 8MB. Upload the PDF file with your online application.
Make sure to upload all the required documents to the online application. The OAS will not receive neither physical documents, nor documents by email. Please do not include in your application the additional documents requested by the ONE.
2.
After you submit the application, you will receive an email with the application you filled out in PDF format.  Print the application, add the required documents, and submit the package to the ONE in your country. The ONE will pre-select candidates, therefore, make sure to send them all the physical documents required by the OAS and the ONE.
3.
If you are selected to receive an OAS Scholarship, you must submit a Medical History Form to the OAS Headquarters in Washington DC. All costs associated with complying with the medical examination requirement are the responsibility of the awardees.

Access Scholarship Details

In collaboration with our member societies around the world, Access Scholarships are being awarded beginning with the 2013 exam cycle.
Over 2,600 scholarships will be awarded to CFA Program applicants each calendar year.
Note: Scholarship applicants who register for an exam while their Access Scholarship application is pending will be deemed ineligible and their application will be voided. However, scholarship applicants may purchase the curriculum separately by contacting us. After scholarship notifications occur in December 2013, credit will be given for the advance purchase curriculum to applicants who register for an exam.
  • Once you submit your scholarship application, changes cannot be made.
  • If a candidate's financial situation changes, Access Scholarship applicants can withdraw their application from consideration before 1 November of the year in which they submit their application.
  • If you receive a scholarship and register, you must sit for the exam in the relevant exam year awarded or you may be ineligible for future Access Scholarships.

Eligibility:
Students enrolled in any college or university worldwide are eligible to apply. Students who have applied in previous years to BCI’s Student Research Scholarship Program are eligible to reapply each subsequent year, whether they received a previous BCI grant or not. Non-students are not eligible. All proposals to the Student Research Scholarship Program must be prepared by the applicant. While BCI will fund research that is part of a larger project, the student must personally research and develop the proposal. All funded projects must begin no later than December 31 of the year in which the award is received.

Scholarship Description: Each year, BCI awards scholarships to help students at universities around the world conduct conservation-relevant research. The goal of this program is to support exceptionally talented students in research initiatives that will contribute the new knowledge that is essential to conserving bats and the ecosystems they serve worldwide. Additional requirements:

  1. In his or her prior academic education abroad, the applicant must have achieved excellent study results which are relevant for the programme for which the student wishes to enroll. As an indication, the student will be among the top 10% for the relevant programme followed abroad
  2. The applicant will hold a non-EU/EEA passport and will not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans ("Studiefinanciering"; more information)
  3. Scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who have already obtained a Leiden University master’s degree
  4. Students who are granted a Leiden Excellence Scholarship must comply with and confirm in writing their agreement with the terms and conditions attached to the scholarship prior to the granting of the scholarship.

Scholarship Amount:

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme has 5 awards: 
Platinum Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee* and an allowance of €10,000 for living costs
Gold Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee*
Silver Covers 75% of the tuition fee
Bronze Covers 50% of the tuition fee
Ivory Covers 25 % of the tuition fee

The number and type of award of the scholarship depends on the budget available for each Faculty department. The type of award has no reflection on the students' academic level of excellence.
* The tuition fee will be reduced to the amount of the home fee. Students who have been awarded a Platinum or Gold award still have to pay the home fee themselves.

Letter of motivation 

To apply for the scholarship, you should write a letter of motivation (in Word) of a maximum of 500 words, in which you indicate why you believe you should be considered for this scholarship. The Word document should then be attached on the scholarship page in your online application for the master's programmes for which you are applying.

It is possible to submit applications for more scholarship programmes simultaneously. However, it is not possible to obtain more than 1 scholarship from Leiden University for the same study programme. (terms and conditions (pdf))

If you have already submitted your online application for admission to Leiden University, but would still like to apply for the LExS scholarship, we kindly request you to submit the LExS motivation letter to the Scholarships department (e-mail) before the deadline.

Please note 

Students should be aware that the LExS is not a full scholarship. It is necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance their study and stay completely.

One of the requirements for being granted a residence permit in the Netherlands is that students must submit proof that they have sufficient financial means to finance their study period in the Netherlands. Leiden University advises a budget, not including the tuition fee, of approx. €10,000 to €14,000 per year to cover the costs for rent, insurance, living expenses, course books and local transportation. How much money students actually spend will of course depend on their life style and spending habits.

2013-2014 Scholarship Applicants

The 2013-2014 scholarship application period has closed. If you are a prospective or continuing student and applied for 2013-2014 scholarships, good luck! We will begin awarding campus-based scholarships beginning in spring and throughout the summer.
Please refer to the appropriate sections below for information on the application process and eligibility requirements for your particular circumstance. It is important to note that undocumented students are also eligible to apply for scholarships. And remember to check this website in October for specific details on how to apply for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Current/Continuing Students

The 2013-2014 application period for continuing students has now closed. If you submitted an application and wish to be considered for need-based scholarships, you must also complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or for non-citizen AB540-eligible students, a California Dream Act Application. Be sure to include our school code, 001313.
Continuing undergraduates, including freshmen and transfer students who start at UC Davis in Fall 2013, with a GPA of 3.25 or higher should reapply for UC Davis Scholarships each year. Check this website again in October for specific details and a link to the continuing scholarship application for the 2014-2015 academic year. A Letter of Recommendation is required for all continuing student scholarship applicants.

A 3.25 GPA is required, but no additional documentation should be submitted. Transfer applicants:

The UC Application also serves as the scholarship application, so you apply for scholarships when you complete the application for admission between November 1 – 30. A 3.25 college GPA is needed to be considered for UC Davis campus-based scholarships; a letter of recommendation is suggested, though not required. Transfer applicants who wish to be considered for the Regents Scholarship must have a minimum 3.80 college GPA and are required to submit a letter of recommendation (see link below). All transfer students who submit a letter of recommendation by the deadline will have their UC Application packets holistically read by the Scholarship Committee, which may result in a more favorable review. Be sure to read all instructions pertaining to scholarships when completing the application, paying particular attention to the restricted scholarship eligibility codes. Not all codes apply to UC Davis funds, so we've created a list of UC Davis specific restricted scholarship eligibility codes. If you wish to be considered for need-based scholarships, you must also complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or for non-citizen AB540-eligible students, a California Dream Act Application. Be sure to include our school code, 001313.

2012-2013 Scholarships

The application period for 2012-2013 undergraduate scholarships is now complete. We have awarded all Regents Scholarships and other campus-based scholarships as well. All scholarship recipients have been notified by email and all scholarships have been posted to students’ MyAwards site. Unfortunately, many highly eligible students may not be awarded scholarships as the applicant pool was very competitive. The University continues to raise money for scholarships, which means the funding available for next year will be even greater.

Scholarships 2013-14 Series 7:Swedish Institute

The Swedish Institute Study Scholarships target highly-qualified students from the countries listed below. The scholarships will be awarded for studies in Sweden, starting in August 2013 and covers both living costs and tuition fees.
The application period for the academic year 2013/2014 is now passed. The application deadline was February 11, 2013.

Countries

The program is open to candidates from two different categories of countries. Please note that if your country is included under Category 1 – you can only apply within that category.
Category 1:Candidates with citizenship from the following countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
For the academic year of 2012/2013 we received 906 applications and a total of 56 scholarships were granted for students from the 12 countries. Due to budget limitations, we expect to award approximately 40 scholarships to applicants from all 12 countries for the 2013/2014 academic year. 
The applications are assessed by a selection committee taking into consideration the relevance and quality of the personal motivation letter and CV. Academic merits are already evaluated by the universities in the admission round and is not a criteria for scholarships. 
Category 2:
Candidates with citizenship from countries on the DAC list of ODA recipients can apply to this program. Priority will be given to candidates from Algeria, Botswana, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Namibia, South Africa, Syria, Tunisia, Vietnam, West Bank and Gaza strip and Yemen.
Candidates with citizenship from the following countries, Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine cannot apply to this program.
Citizens from Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine can only apply within The Visby Program.
Citizens from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Serbia can only apply within the program SI Scholarships for East Europe.
Citizens from Turkey can only apply within The Swedish-Turkish Scholarship Program.
For the academic year 2013/2014, approximately 200 scholarships will be awarded. For the academic year 2012/2013 we received 888 applications and a total of 72 scholarships were granted for students from 24 countries.
The applications are assessed by a selection committee taking into consideration the relevance and quality of the personal motivation letter and CV. Academic merits are already evaluated by the universities in the admission round and is not a criteria for scholarships.

Level

Scholarships are intended only for master’s level studies in Sweden starting in the fall semester 2013 (August). Please note that the scholarship is not eligible for bachelor’s level studies. 

Who is eligible?

The scholarships are intended for students from the above-mentioned target groups for full time studies in Sweden. There is no age limit for scholarship holders.
Scholarships cannot be granted for students who:
  • Have already lived in Sweden for two years or more previous to the scholarship period.
  • Have a permanent residence or work permit in Sweden.
  • Have previously been awarded a Swedish Institute scholarship for studies at Master’s level or research at a Swedish university. However students who have attended a Swedish Institute summer course in the Swedish language may apply.
  • Already hold a Master’s degree from a Swedish university/university college.
  • Are currently enrolled in a study program on Bachelor’s or Master’s level at a Swedish university or university college.

How to apply for a scholarship


First apply for studies at a Swedish University
Prior to applying for a scholarship, you must apply for a study program at the Swedish official online application service University Admissions, www.universityadmissions.se  Deadline for applications is January 15, 2013. You can apply for a maximum of four study programs.
Submit the payment of your application fee to University Admissions before February 1, 2013.
Then apply for a scholarship
The application period for the academic year 2013/2014 is now passed. The application deadline was February 11, 2013.
Please note that your application fee to University Admissions must be paid before you submit your scholarship application to the Swedish Institute.
The eligible study programs for SI scholarships have been selected by the Swedish universities. The list of eligible study programs can be found here.
Please observe that your personal application number retrieved in the confirmation from your study program registration has to be used when applying for a scholarship.
A list of successful candidates will be published on www.studyinsweden.se before deadline to accept your place at the study program at www.universityadmissions.se.

Scholarship benefits and period

 
The scholarship covers both the tuition fee (which is paid directly to the Swedish university/university college by the Swedish Institute) and living expenses to the amount of SEK 9,000 per month.
The scholarship is only awarded for programs starting in the fall semester 2013 (August) and is granted for of one academic year, i.e. for two semesters at a time. It will be extended for programs longer than two semesters provided that the study results are satisfactory.
The scholarship is designed to cover living costs and study expenses for the scholarship holder. There are no grants for family members. The granted scholarship period cannot be altered or extended beyond the study program period nor can the scholarship be transferred to another study program at a Swedish university.

SI Network for Future Global Leaders

All Swedish Institute scholarship holders are invited to become members of the SI Network for Future Global Leaders – a network that offers unique opportunities during and after the stay in Sweden. Together with other talented people from all around the world, the scholarship holder is able to take part in a variety of events, exchange ideas and create networks that benefit both to career and personal development.

Travel grants

Scholarship holders will receive a travel grant in connection with the scholarship. The travel grant is a one-time payment of SEK 15,000.

Insurance

Scholarship holders are insured by the Swedish State Group Insurance against illness and accident during the scholarship period.

Australia Awards for Africa 2014 were launched on 01 Sept 2012 across Africa. The deadline for potential applicants from Africa to send their submissions is November (for short-term awards) and December (for long-term awards). Professionals from both private and public sectors of 51 African countries are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
Over the past three years, the number of Australian development scholarships available for African professionals has increased ten-fold. Today, one quarter of all Australian development scholarships are directed to Africa.

Australia Awards in Africa

Australia Awards in Africa (AAA) promotes development in Africa through scholarships and fellowships in areas where Australia is recognised as having expertise, including Agriculture and Food Security, Health, Mining and Natural Resource Management, Public Policy and Water and Sanitation.
The scholarships are managed by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and are designed to promote knowledge, education links and enduring ties between Australia and the global community. They aim at assisting African countries progress towards the Millennium Development Goals.
The scholarships are for Masters degrees and short courses providing training in 17 specialised fields. Australian Leadership Award Scholarships are offered to outstanding Masters-level applicants.
